From High to Low

Monday, October 29th, 2007

With last week’s sweep of seven points, we came in ready to repeat this week, but alas, that was not to be. Jen did not hit her average in all three games, due to her not being able to adjust to the crappy lane conditions and her debilitating headache. Andrew was overcome with the curse of the first 600 series. He started off a bit weak but was able to rally to get two points in the last two games. Bob had a tough week as well, only achieving one point and in the process, lost what little self-respect he had left. Brandon didn’t do so bad, with a couple of 200 games, earning himself two points and closing the gap between him and Bob.With our poor bowling skills, our opponents sufficiently trounced us in the first two games by at least 70+ pins. But all was not lost for we were able to squeak by and take the third game from them, earning us two points for the league. Two points are better than none.

Week Nine Review

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Coming off a mediocre week 8, SoaL needed a good week to not only lift the team’s spirit but to keep them in the hunt for the five. Starting week nine, SoaL is sitting comfortably at seventh place and would be taking on the Rockets, who are sitting pretty low in the standings although have the men’s high averaged bowler.

Game one went pretty well and everybody bowled above their average. Except for me, coming up eleven pins short. Jen bowled well surpassing her average by 20 pins and Bob was six over, both earning one point. Andrew rolled his highest game of the season with a 210, picking up two points towards the bet. SoaL wins game one.

Game two went just as well for the team, again, with the exception of me. Frustrated after game one and struggling to find a consistent shot, I again came up short rolling a 180. Jen continues to ride her groove shooting a 146 and picking up another point. Bob again bowled well with a 179 also picking up another point. Andrew continued to torch the pins, whether it was in the pocket or carrying Brooklyn, and shot a 215 – breaking his season high that was set in the previous game while picking up two more points for the bet. SoaL wins game two soundly.

Game three wasn’t as great as the previous two but still good overall. Jen would come up short this game rolling a 127 as would Bob with a 157. Andrew slacked off a bit from the first two games but still shot well, hitting a 181. I finally found my stride and rebounded for a 223 and SoaL would win game 3 and snatched all seven points for the week.

Andrew’s impressive bowling earned him his first ever 600 series and a nice little patch. Andrew earned 5 points for the bet, the first five point week for any member on SoaL. Bob, Jen, and I would each earn two points. The bet is still fairly close and nobody is out of it yet. Bob still leads with 16 points. Andrew caught up with me as we are tied at 13 points, 3 from the leader. Jen is now at ten points and swears to bounce back to earn her girly afternoon tea. There are 6 or 7 weeks remaining in the half, which means that every bowler has 36 or 39 points available to earn. It is far from over.

Point Standings

Week eight, two weeks late

Friday, October 26th, 2007

OK, so it took me a little longer than it should have to write the update for this week. Sorry. Anyway, since I can’t remember exactly what happened, here’s what I have surmised from the stats:

Jen did awesome, beating her average by over 25 pins the first two games, netting her four points in the bet. I did not do awesome, and ended up with only one point. Bob started the night with a game two pins under his average and steadily climbed from there, getting one point the second game and two the third. Brandon did exactly the opposite, getting two, one, and zero points respectively.

I KICKED Butt!

Since nothing was posted about my awesomeness two weeks ago, I thought I would give myself a little pat on the back.  I won 4 points that week, blew the rest of my team away.  Of course, I’m still in last place but I can at least almost reach third.

Oof, that was a whoopin’ – Week 7.

So we went up against the team Smooth as Silk last night, with CJ subbing in for Alma. And even though Dave was below his average all three games (must be his new jeans), Will Wrench dropped a 667 on us and they took 5 points.

As far as our team was concerned, each member of The Snakes had one good game except Brandon, who was consistently just below average all night. Jen (via her prebowl — she was coming back from a company sponsored trip to Vegas) bested her average by 11 in the first game to nab a single point for the week. Andrew and I both gagged horribly (111 and 132, respectively) and Brandon missed his average by 13, so we lost the first game by 142. Oof. I got on a roll in the second game, dropping a 224 to nab two points in the bet and two points for the team as we beat them 786 – 750. Jen fell just one pin short of her average there (ouch). In the third game, Andrew snuck onto the score sheet with a 175 (3 over average) in, but Jen and I limped in with a 117 and 141 and Brandon tied his average (double ouch) and we lost the third game by 23.

Oy vey. Better luck next week.

Week 6 Review

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Well, week 6 was definately a down week from the team stand point. Going up against Spare parts, 8th place (18-17), proved rather difficult. Not only did we give them 60 sticks a game in handicap, but their 169 average bowler rolled his ass off. Actually, looking at the score sheet, all members of Spare parts were well over average. Damn sand-baggers. Haha, ok, thats just a shitty excuse for losing and I refuse to use it. We lost because we didn’t bowl well enough.

The first game was pretty close. While SoaL bowled around average or slightly over, Spare Parts was 82 pins over average. As I said before, add that to the 60 we game them, it makes it a struggle to keep up. However, we only lost by 31 pins. Jen: 158 Andrew: 167 Bob: 156 Brandon: 208

The second game, SoaL took a beating and lost by 66 bones. Andrew bounced back to hit his average while Bob and Brandon were pretty consistent. Jen fell asleep in the bathroom and missed four frames. Hehe. Jen: 95 Andrew: 182 Bob: 159 Brandon: 202

The third game, SoaL would seek revenge. SoaL will not be shut out, will not go home beaten, will not be embarrassed! Andrew again bowled over his average and Brandon as well, barely. Bob blew up and rolled 44 over his average, earning him an extra point for the bet. Jen, refreshed from her nap fought to get back to average but fell one point short. SoaL would win by 45 pins and take two points for the week. Jen: 140 Andrew: 182 Bob: 200 Brandon: 188.

And for the bet? Well, Bob’s big game puts him in the lead by one point. And while he seems pretty confident that he will remain the leader, we must remind him that there are still 9 weeks or so left of this contest. And I’m starting to hit my stride. Jen seems to have accepted that she will not win and is now rooting for Bob. And Andrew isn’t far behind and could make a push for that leader’s spot.
